West Valley defeats San Jose City College in 3

The West Valley volleyball program extended its winning streak to four matches after a 3-set victory over San Jose City College. The Vikings jumped out to an early lead in set 1 and never looked back, getting multiple service point runs from Maggie Carroll, Taylor Vales, and Francesca Zanotti, along with a solid team attack efficiency of .304 to win the first set 25-11. The second set started out much the same way, and the Vikings were able to find their offensive rhythm, attacking at a blistering .545 team attack percentage. At one point, Maggie Carroll ran off a 7-point service run, and Francesca Zanotti contributed 2 service aces of her own as West Valley won the set 25-10. In set 3, the Vikings continued their strong offensive performance, led by Francesca Zanotti and her match-high 39 assists, to hit .484 as a team and win the set 25-10. Sophie Ehret led the Vikings with 11 kills for the match, while Alex Franklin and Sydney Pista each contributed 7. Defensively, Taylor Vales led the team with a match-high 12 digs, and Rowynn Funk led the team in blocks with 1.

The Vikings are back in action on the road next Wednesday, October 11, when they take on Skyline College at 6:30 p.m.
