Viking Volley Wins 9th Straight Against CSM

The West Valley women's volleyball team captured its 9th win in a row and sole possession of 1st place in the Coast Conference South with a 4-set victory at the College of San Mateo on Thursday night. The set scores were 19-25, 28-26, 25-22, and 25-20.

The Vikings were led offensively by Alex Franklin, who recorded a team and match-high 19 kills. Sydney Pista contributed 9 kills and had an outstanding .444 efficiency clip, while Julia LaPierre had 9 kills and hit .300 for the match. The team had 13 service aces for the match, with Sophie Ehret and Maggie Carroll each recording 3. Defensively, the Vikings dug a total of 60 balls, with Sophie Ehret leading the way with 17 and Taylor Vales contributing 15.

Head Coach Sam Crosson praised his team, stating, "Overall, this was a great match for our team. We were constantly aggressive from the service line, and our team really battled throughout the match. I'm proud of the way our group responded after dropping the first set, maintaining their composure, relentlessly pursuing balls on the defensive end, and being aggressive in good situations offensively as the match continued. I thought our team's ability to process and apply scouting report information also showed during the match, and we were able to execute in ways that helped us be successful."

The Vikings will be back in action on Wednesday, November 1, as they travel to Las Positas.

Note: The match scheduled for Friday, October 27, at West Valley versus Skyline has been postponed to Monday, November 13, 2023.
