Playing perhaps their best volleyball of the year, West Valley swept host Hartnell 5-0 Friday to gain a Coast Conference split in Salinas. After dropping a fierce 3-2 battle to Monterey Peninsula in the morning dual, the Vikings put together a wire-to-wire win in the afternoon. The Vikings (8-11, 7-6 Coast) avenged a bitter 3-2 home loss to the Panthers (14-8, 9-4) on March 14.
WVC 2's Rowynn Funk and Jess Watanabe and 4's Kyra Bito and Julia LaPierre opened the first wave against Hartnell with wins for a 2-0 Viking lead. West Valley kept the pedal to the metal in wave two with 1's Sophie Ehret/Francesca Zanotti, 3's Rachel Sanchez/Emma Landaverde and 5's Anastacia Delatorre/Sianalai Tautolo all posting straight-set victories.
The Vikings were unable to overcome a 2-0 first-wave deficit against MPC (12-6, 9-4). Sanchez/Landaverde and Tautolo/Delatorre evened it up at 2-2 with wins to open the later wave, but Ehret/Zanotti dropped a tight 1's battle.
The Vikings (8-11, 7-6 Coast) close out the regular season Wednesday (4/16) against Cabrillo (13-6, 9-4) and then head to Main Beach in Santa Cruz for the 2025 Coast Conference Pairs Tournament April 23.
