Zamora's Three-Run Blast Boosts Vikings to 10-7 Win Over Yuba

The West Valley baseball team capped a 2-1 weekend at the Gary Engleken Tournament at Yuba College with a 10-7 win over host Yuba Saturday afternoon. Robert Zamora blasted a three-run HR in the top of the first to help the Vikings (4-3) to a 4-0 lead. Yuba (4-5) would grab the lead at 5-4 with two runs in the second and three in the third. West Valley made it 6-5 with two in the fourth on a Marco Salvetti sacrifice fly that scored Cale Thompson and a Troy Gilmore run on a wild pitch. The Vikings picked up two insurance runs in the sixth, thanks to Jake Pao's RBI double and Rich Meyers' run-scoring single. A Zamora RBI single and a Nate Petrov run off a 49er error in the top of the eighth closed out the scoring. Zamora finished the day 2-5 with four RBI. Petrov was 3-4 with one RBI and Thompson went 3-5. Andrew Tri earned the win in four innings of work. West Valley heads to Modesto Tuesday (2/13) for the first of a three-game series with the Pirates (5-3). The teams square off Thursday in Saratoga and return to the Central Valley Saturday for game three. First pitch for games one and two is 2:00pm. Game three starts at 1:00pm.
