Troy Gilmore sent a 1-1 pitch to right-center in the bottom of the eighth, driving in Hunter Schilperoort and Nate Petrov and lifting the West Valley baseball team to a 6-5 rain-soaked win over crosstown rival De Anza Thursday at Valhalla. The Vikings (13-8, 2-2 Coast-Golden Gate) jumped out to a 4-1 lead with a four-run second highlighted by Erik Ochoa's two-run single and Nate Petrov's RBI double. De Anza (10-11, 1-4) would chip away, putting single runs on the board in the 4th and 5th and then grabbing a 5-4 lead in the top of the 8th on Ryan Grady's RBI single. West Valley opened the 8th with three straight singles to set the stage for Gilmore. Viking closer Jared Espinosa came on in the ninth and set the Dons down in order. Matt Remmel picked up the win in relief of starter Nick Johnson, who scattered six hits over five innings of work. The two teams take to the field at Valhalla again Saturday (3/17) First pitch is 1:00pm.
