Schilperoort's Strong Start Not Enough as Bulldogs Escape with 2-1 Coast Win

It went down to the wire Saturday for two teams battling for their playoff lives as San Mateo escaped with a 2-1 home win over the West Valley baseball team. Jake Pao gave the Vikings (16-15, 4-7 Coast-Golden Gate) a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, scoring on Troy Gilmore's groundout to second. West Valley starter Hunter Schilperoort kept the Bulldogs (20-11, 7-5) off the board with five innings of seven-hit, seven-strikeout work. CSM's Chris Papapietro evened it up with a one-run double in the seventh and then drove in the winning run with an walk-off RBI single in the ninth.
