West Valley's 3-2 Lead Short-Lived; Vikings Fall to Gladiators

Nate Petrov

The West Valley baseball team led 3-2 through four innings, but Chabot put up five runs in the fifth and three in the sixth to grind out an 11-5 win over the Vikings Saturday at Valhalla. The Vikings (19-19, 7-11 Coast-Golden Gate) erased a 2-0 Gladiator leading the third on Nate Petrov's two-run single and a Ruben Trejo SAC bunt. Four unearned runs resulted in Chabot's five-run fifth and gave the Gladiators (20-17, 12-6) an 8-3 advantage that they would extend to 11-3 in the sixth. Hunter Schilperoort blasted his team-leading fourth homer, a solo shot, in the home half of the ninth. The Vikings close out the season with a pair against cellar-dwelling City College of San Francisco (10-27, 4-14). The series opens at Valhalla Tuesday (4/24) at 2:30pm and then moves to CCSF Thursday (4/26) at 1:00pm.
