Vikings' Nine-Game Turnaround is State's 2nd Best

2018 West Valley Vikings

The West Valley baseball team narrowly missed being included in the 18-team postseason field released by the CCCAA Sunday night. However, 2018 will go down as a significant step for a Viking program with a bright future. West Valley's final 21-19 record, 9-11 in a Coast Conference that sent five teams to the playoffs, was a nine-game improvement from 2017's 12-27, a turnaround that ranks as the state's second best in 2018. Valhalla was the site of another memorable home season that included such gems as January 27th's 9-7, 12-inning win over American River on Nate Petrov's walk-off single off the right-centerfield fence, and the epic eight-run comeback against De Anza on 4/17 that featured Robert Zamora's eighth-inning grand slam off the right fielder's glove and Hunter Schilperoort's walk-off double up the middle. Congratulations to Coach Rick Wiens and the 2018 West Valley Vikings!
