The defense was error-free, the pitching outstanding, but the offense could only muster four lonely singles in the West Valley baseball team's 1-0 loss to visiting America River College Saturday afternoon. Viking starter Mason Mooney hurled six scoreless innings, striking out four and giving up four hits before giving way to reliever Erik Peterson. Peterson started slowly, walking two and and giving up the lone Beaver run on a wild pitch in the seventh, but was in command the rest of the way, allowing only one hit and closing out the game with four consecutive K's. Nate Petrov, Jonathan Teschner, Travis Varni and Robby Zanardelli each had singles for the Vikings (0-2). West Valley hosts Hartnell (1-1) Tuesday (1/29), with first pitch at 2:00pm.
