Danny O'Reilly blasted a third-inning grand slam that launched the West Valley baseball team to a resounding 14-5 win over Highway 17 rival Cabrillo in Santa Cruz Tuesday. The O'Reilly long ball highlighted a six-run third that began on a leadoff triple by Jake Pao. Back-to-back hit batters filled the bases with Vikings to set the stage for O'Reilly. West Valley (2-5) added four more in the fourth thanks to a Jared Reupert RBI double. Jason Haug's two-run double keyed a four-run fifth inning that boosted the Viking lead to 14-1. The Seahawks (5-2) added a run in the seventh and three in the bottom of the ninth for the 14-5 final. O'Reilly was 3-4 with six RBI, Reupert went 3-4 with two RBI and Haug finished 2-4 with a pair of RBI. Viking starter Matt Atencio picked up the win, while Keegan Baird was strong in relief, giving up a single run on three hits in four innings of work. West Valley returns to Valhalla Thursday (2/7) for a 2:00 game against Yuba (3-2).
