Cole Murchison went 3-5 with a triple and four RBI, but it wasn't enough to carry the West Valley baseball team past Butte at Valhalla Thursday. The Roadrunners rallied past the Vikings 9-5 in the first of a three-game series in Saratoga.

Murchison ripped a two-run three-bagger to center to give West Valley (1-3) a 3-1 lead in the first. His RBI single in the fifth made it 4-3, but the Roadrunners evened it at 4-4 in the seventh and then put it away with a four-run eighth.

Viking starter Adrian Lopez had a good outing, giving up a single run on one hit and striking out two in 3.1 innings of work. Pako Vehikite led off the game for WVC with a double to the wall at right-center. Curran Ozawa-Burns, Tyler Schrader and Jonathan Teschner also doubled.

The teams meet at Valhalla again Friday at 1:00pm and Saturday at noon.
