The West Valley baseball team notched its second consecutive Valhalla victory with a 6-3 win over Contra Costa Saturday afternoon.

The Vikings (4-7) got strong performances from a pair of pitchers and some timely hitting. They grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a Connor Leaverton RBI single and an Evan Meier run on a Comet throwing error.

After Contra Costa (3-8) grabbed a 3-2 lead with a trio of runs in the second, Luke Short made his first appearance of the season and silenced the Comets with no runs on three hits in five innings. Matt Atencio wrapped things up with two K's in the top of the ninth to earn the save.

The Vikings added a run in the fourth on a Jacob Dressler RBI single, in the fifth on Steven Grizzle's two-run double, and in the seventh when Henry Wright scored on Cole Murchison's SAC fly to center.

Grizzle finished the day 2-3 with two RBI, while Curran Ozawa-Burns was 2-4 with two runs scored. Wright had a triple in the seventh. Short picked up the win on the mound.

WVC battles Modesto (6-4) this week in a three-game series that starts Feb. 18 (2pm first pitch) at Modesto. The series shifts to Valhalla (2pm) Feb. 20 and concludes at Modesto on the 22nd (1pm).
