Versatile Vehikite to continue career at Kansas Wesleyan

Pako Vehikite has signed with Kansas Wesleyan University, joining fellow Viking outfielder Tyler Schrader, who'll be playing at Sterling College, in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Vehikite (pronounced Veh-he-kee-tay) finished his two-year West Valley career with a .287 average, collecting 23 hits in 80 at-bats. He scored 20 runs, had eight RBI, pounded out three doubles and had a memorable home run. The Santa Clara High School product, who was also a stellar middle linebacker for the Bruins, stole two bases, and compiled a .414 OBP and a .362 SLG. He was a fielding fixture in left, committing a lone error in 35 opportunites for a .971 fielding %.

Career WVC highlights include a two-RBI afternoon in a 6-5 win over Modesto at Valhalla on Feb. 20, and a 3-7, six-run two-game stretch against City College of San Francisco on March 3 and 5. On March 30, 2019, Vehikite launched a solo homer to left that cleared the West Valley bus in the parking lot at Hartnell, leading the Vikings to a 6-5 win over the Panthers.

Kansas Wesleyan is an NAIA school located in Salina north of Wichita in the heart of Kansas. The Coyotes are coached by Bill Neale, now in his sixth season. KWU was 12-11, 3-4 in the KCAC in 2020 when the season was halted in mid-March. The KCAC is made up of 12 schools, including Schrader's Sterling College Warriors and the Tabor Blue Jays, the alma mater of Viking coach Rick Wiens' mother, Diana.
