Vikings thump ARC 11-2 to gain opening-weekend split

West Valley pounded out 12 hits en route to an 11-2 win at American River College Saturday. The win earned the Vikings (1-1) an opening weekend split with the Beavers (1-1).

The Vikings jumped on top with a three-run second inning, keyed by an RBI double from Henry Wright. The lead was extended to 8-1 with three runs in the fourth, thanks to an RBI double from Weston Scoffone and an RBI-single from Cole Murchison. Single Viking runs in the fifth, seventh and eighth countered a single ARC run in the seventh.

Wright finished the day 2-4 with three runs scored and an RBI, while Murchison went 2-3 with three RBI, and Scoffone was 2-4 with two RBI and a pair of runs scored. WVC starter Michael Dixson hurled a strong five innings, striking out eight Beavers and giving up one run on one hit.

WVC and ARC opened the season Friday, with the Beavers taking a 9-5 win. ARC broke open a 3-3 tie with a two-run fifth and three runs in the sixth. Aran Cox, Jacob Dressler, Connor Leaverton and Cole Murchison each had two hits for the Vikings.

The Vikings entertain the Beavers Tuesday (2/1) at Mission College. First pitch is 2:00pm.
