The Vikings and the Panthers square off for a rebound

A slow start doomed the West Valley men's basketball team to a 70-60 Coast Conference loss at Hartnell Friday night. The Vikings (10-9, 1-2 Coast) trailed by as many as 20 in the first half before battling back to within three midway through the second. Hartnell (11-6, 3-0) connected on nine three-pointers, including seven in the opening half that helped them to a 34-23 lead at the break. Devante Johnson led the Vikings with 18 points and Cristian Mejia added 17. Spencer Conrad's 21, along with 19 from Kishon Rogers, paced the Panthers. The Vikings host San Jose City (4-13, 1-3) Wednesday (1/17). Tipoff is 7pm.
