The West Valley men's basketball team gave top-ranked and defending champion City College of San Francisco all it could handle Wednesday night before falling to the Rams 78-76 in Saratoga. Trailing 42-35 at the break, the Vikings' Devante Johnson buried seven points to key a 9-0 run to open the second half. West Valley would extend its lead to 64-55 midway through the half before the Rams grabbed a 74-70 lead with a minute left. CCSF hit four free throws at the end to counter a furious Viking rally at the end. Johnson finished with 21 points, including 14 in the second half, to lead WVC (2-4), while Tyler Wright canned 15 and Cristian Mejia had 10. Malcolm Johnson led the Rams (6-0) with 15 second-half points on his way to a game-high 22. The Vikings head to Columbia Saturday (11/24) for a 6:00pm game against the Cougars (3-0) and then return to Saratoga next Wednesday (11/28) for a game against San Joaquin Delta (4-1) at 5:00pm.
