Vikings Stay Unbeaten in Coast with 94-62 Rout at San Jose City

The West Valley basketball team stayed unbeaten in the Coast-South Conference with a 94-62 rout of San Jose City Wednesday night in San Jose. After heading to the locker room with an uninspired 40-36 halftime lead, the Vikings (10-10, 4-0 Coast) dominated the Jaguars (0-20, 0-4) 54-26 in the second half. Jacquez Walker sank three consecutive bombs from beyond the arc in less than a minute to give WVC a 78-50 lead with 6:11 to go. Walker connected on six treys for a game-high 24 points, to go along with four rebounds, four assists and a pair of steals. Derrik Lawrence had 13 points, Trevor Funk had 12 points, four boards and three steals, while Cristian Mejia scored 11 and had three rebounds, three assists and three steals. Ryan Hewitt had a key game off the bench with ten rebounds, three blocked shots and eight points. West valley hosts Coast-South co-leader Gavilan (18-2, 4-0) Friday (1/25) at 7:00pm.
