Vikings Can't Solve Castrajon, Fall 1-0 to Fresno in NorCal Finals

Vikings Fall to FCC

In a battle befitting two men's soccer heavyweights, Fresno City outlasted West Valley 1-0 in a CCCAA NorCal Regional Championship Saturday afternoon in Fresno. The Vikings dominated possession in the first half but were unable to put anything past Ram GK Andres Castrajon, who stopped five WVC shots to earn the shutout. Manual Lopez (Juan Alvarez assist) pushed a shot past Viking keeper Yannick Lamers in the 57th minute for the game's only score. The win moved the top-seeded Rams into next weekend's CCCAA State Championship at American River College (12/1, 3). Coach Gaspar Silveira's Vikings finished the year with a 16-3-4 mark, winning the Coast Conference with a 10-0-3 record, and posting a 20-game unbeaten streak that ended Saturday. Playoff wins against San Joaquin Delta and Las Positas thrust the freshmen-laden Vikings into the state Elite Eight.
