Day two of the 2018 Coast Conference Men's and Women's Swim and Dive Championships at the West Valley Aquatics Center came down to a shimmering :03. That fraction of a second, in a reach to the pad by West Valley's Nicolas Butelet (see photo) in Friday's final event, was the margin of victory in the 800 yard freestyle relay. Butelet made up a 4.5 second deficit in the race's final leg as Viking teammates Kevan Auger, Jake Blundell and Dylan Woodhouse cheered from the blocks. West Valley's Jafet Hernandez also raced to a Coast championship, winning the 100 breaststroke in 57:31. Sayeh Faridina captured her second individual championship of the weekend with a dominant 56:72 win in the 100 butterfly. Allie Ruzsa also made it two championships in two days, taking the 100 breaststroke title in 1:09:24. Viking second place finishes went to Auger in the 100 butterfly, Butelet in the 200 freestyle, and the men's 200 medley relay (Christian Black, Auger, Hernandez and Woodhouse). Placing third was Black in the 100 backstroke and the women's 200 medley relay team of Ruzsa, Faridina, Sabrina Esteves Alvarez, and Andrea Morrone. Las Positas continues its hold atop both the men's and women's team standings, while the West Valley men are second and the women fourth. The 2018 Coast Championships conclude today (4/21) starting at 10:00am.
