Viking Swimmers Capture 22 Medals, Eight Titles at the Coast Conference Championships

The West Valley men's and women's swimming teams came away from the 2018 Coast Conference Championships at the West Valley Aquatics Center with eight titles and 22 medals overall. Sayeh Faridnia, who was named Swimmer of the Meet, swam to championships in the 100 Butterfly (56:72), the 200 Butterfly (2:09:46) and the 200 Individual Medley (2:10:96). Alexandra Ruzsa titled in the 100 Breaststroke (1:09:24) and the 50 Freestyle (25:26). Kevan Auger took first in the 200 Butterfly (2:02:22), and Jafet Hernandez won the 100 Breaststroke (57:31). In the most exciting race of the three-day event, West Valley's men's 800 Freestyle relay team of Auger, Jake Blundell, Dylan Woodhouse and Nicolas Butelet won the title by :03. Individual second place finishes went to Butlet in the 1650 Freestyle (17:23:35), the 200 Freestyle (1:47:97) and the 500 Freestyle (4:58:40), and Auger in the 100 Butterfly (53:45). Relay seconds went to the men in the 200 Freestyle (Woodhouse, Blundell, Hernandez, Auger; 1:30:10), the 200 Medley (Christian Black, Hernandez, Auger, Woodhouse; 1:38:25), the 400 Freestyle (Hernandez, Enrico De Munno, Blundell, Butelet; 3:17:56), and the 400 Medley (Black, Hernandez, Auger, Woodhouse; 3:42:41). Finishing second in the 400 Freestyle relay was the women's team of Ruzsa, Andrea Morrone, Sabrina Esteves Alvarez and Faridnia (3:46:51). Picking up individual thirds were Auger in the 100 Freestyle (47:09), Jason Blazensky in the 200 Butterfly (2:19:33), and Black in the 100 Backstroke (55:86). Relay thirds went to the women in the 200 Freestyle (Ruzsa, Morrone, Esteves Alvarez, Faridnia; 1:43:53) and the 200 Medley (Morrone, Ruzsa, Faridnia, Esteves Alvarez; 1:53:03). Overall, the Viking men finished second and the women ended up fourth.
