Much as he did Friday in his 200 Individual Medley state championship win, Alec Mortensen raced away from his closest competitor in the final 25 yards to capture the 200 Freestyle title Saturday at East LA College. Mortensen had a slight lead over Joshy Peters of College of the Sequoias at the final turn and pulled away to finish at 1:38.24, two seconds ahead Peters.
Mortenson joins Sayeh Faridnia as the only Vikings to win multiple state championships in one meet. Faridnia won the the 100 and 200 Butterfly titles in 2018, also at East LA.
