Game one of Saturday's doubleheader against Lassen had a familiar look for the West Valley softball team. For the third time in five home games, WVC trailed heading into the final inning. And, for the third time, the Vikings (7-4) prevailed thanks to some timely hitting. With West Valley trailing 4-3, leadoff hitter Alexandra Pussich drove an 0-1 Sabrina Johnson pitch over the centerfield fence to tie it up. Back-to-back singles from Jessell Lewis and Samantha Fletes then set the stage for Malia Pula, who took a 3-2 pitch to left-center to score Lewis for the win. Pula's two-run HR in the fifth highlighted her 2-4, three RBI outing. Fletes was 4-4 with a double and an RBI. Lewis (5-1) picked up the complete game win in the circle, giving up six hits and striking out four. The Cougars (4-5) were paced by Sabrina Jones, who was 3-3 with a pair of RBI and a second-inning solo HR. Sabrina Johnson (0-2) absorbed the loss.
