The West Valley softball team scored in every inning of their 9-1, five-inning win in game two of Saturday's doubleheader with Lassen. Taking advantage of 10 hits, the Vikings (8-4) picked up solo runs in the first and second, five in the third and two in the fourth. Alexandra Pussich got things started in the opening inning with the first of her four singles. She then stole 2nd and 3rd and scored when Jessell Lewis sent a ground ball between Mia Torres' legs at short. In the Viking second, Haley Walker doubled to left-center and came home on a Pussich RBI single. The Vikings broke it open in the 3rd, sending 11 batters to the plate and scoring five runs on five hits. Samantha Fletes opened with a double and then scored on a Cougar overthrow of a Courtney Coombs grounder to third. Walker singled to move Coombs to third. A Janelle McAfee single knocked in Coombs. Pussich singled home Walker, and McAfee and Maddy Lucey, who had reached on a fielder's choice, came home on a Lewis line drive to right. The Vikings closed out the scoring in the fourth when Siobhan Taylor scored on McAfee's grounder back to the circle and another single from Pussich that knocked in Walker, who had walked. WVC starter Reina Maldonado (3-3) struck out four and scattered seven hits for the win. Sabrina Johnson took the loss. In addition to Pussich's 4-4, three-RBI outing, Walker was 2-2 with three runs scored, Lewis 1-3 with three RBI and McAfee 1-3 with a pair of RBI. West Valley heads to Modesto (2-10) Monday (2/19) for a 3:00pm tilt against the Pirates.
