The West Valley softball team evened its Coast-South record at 1-1 with a methodical 5-0 win over Gavilan Tuesday in Saratoga. The Vikings (10-7, 1-1 Coast-South) got all the runs they would need in the first on back-to-back HRs from Alexandra Pussich and Malia Pula. West Valley added two more in the third on a Pussich RBI single and a Samantha Fletes SAC fly. A Pussich SAC fly scored Maddy Lucey, who had tripled one pitch before, for the final WVC run in the bottom of the fifth. Pussich ended the day 2-2 with three RBI and Pula was 2-3. Reina Maldonado earned the complete game win in the circle, giving up a lone Ram hit in the second and striking out six. The Vikings travel to Monterey Peninsula Thursday (3/8) to take on the league-leading Lobos (15-3-1, 2-0). First pitch is 3:00pm.
