The West Valley softball team stayed in the postseason hunt with a doubleheader split with Ohlone Saturday in Saratoga. The Vikings (17-14, 5-7 Coast-South) took the first game 2-1 on Maddy Lucey's walkoff single up the middle that scored Reina Maldonado. Malia Pula evened it up at 1-1 in the sixth, knocking in Lucey on a double to right. Jessell Lewis picked up the complete-game win in the circle, giving up only three hits and striking out two. The Renegades (30-9, 9-2 Coast-North) showed in game two why they are the north's fifth-ranked team. After the Vikings led 1-0 through four, Ohlone picked up single runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh, two on solo homers, to grab a 3-1 lead heading to the bottom of the seventh. Pula closed the gap to 3-2 with an RBI single, but Renegade starter Holly Gonzalez would get the final two outs to stop the WVC rally. The Vikings close out the regular season this week with a trio of home games. On Tuesday (4/24) Hartnell (14-17, 6-6) comes to Saratoga for a 3:00pm game. The Foothill Owls fly into town Wednesday (4/25) for a pair of games at 1 and 3pm.
