Vikings Stop Lobos in Four

Volleyball tops MPC

Enduring their most error-filled match of the conference season, the West Valley volleyball team took a 3-1 win from Monterey Peninsula Wednesday night in Saratoga. The Vikings (13-5, 4-0 Coast-North) won the first two sets by identical 25-19 scores and then struggled in set three, falling 20-25 to the Lobos ((9-8, 1-3). Kaylin Henderson connected on nine consecutive service points to help WVC jump out to a 22-9 fourth-set lead, and the Vikings coasted to a 25-14 win to wrap up the match. Henderson had seven key service aces in addition to 15 kills. Mapuhola Sekona again paced the stat chart with a match-high 23 kills and 20 digs, along with four aces and three solo blocks. Kiki Holland landed five aces and Shyla Boeche handed out 43 assists. 2016 All-Coast libero Morgan Wright returned from a season-long injury and came up with 19 big digs. West Valley travels to Aptos tonight (10/13) for a first-place battle with Cabrillo (16-1, 3-0). First serve is 6:30pm.
