The West Valley volleyball team opens the 2018 season on the road against four 2017 CCCAA playoff teams. The matches against Los Medanos (8/29), Gavilan (8/29), American River (8/31) and 2016 champion Fresno City (8/31) will provide early-season tests for a Viking team looking for a deep run in the 2018 playoffs. West Valley (17-11, 7-5 Coast in 2017) feature eight returners, led by Mapuhola Sekona, an All-NorCal and All-Coast Conference selection who led the CCCAA in regular season kills and kills-per-set. The season gets underway Aug. 22, as De Anza comes to Saratoga for a scrimmage. First serve is noon.
