The West Valley volleyball team dropped an epic five-set match at Hartnell Wednesday night in Salinas.. The Vikings (8-5, 1-1 Coast) started strong, winning a 25-17 first set. The Panthers (15-2, 2-0) answered by taking the next two 25-21 and 25-20. WVC squared it with an intense 25-21 fourth set win, but the Panthers took advantage of a slow Viking start in the fifth set to clinch the match with a 15-10 win. Mapuhola Sekona paced the Viking stat sheet with 16 kills, 13 digs and four blocks. Kaylin Henderson's line read 10 kills, four blocks, five digs and three of West Valley's 11 service aces. Rene Wash followed Sekona with 13 kills and eight digs, while Audrey Fernandez recorded 38 assists and eight digs. The Vikings entertain state #5 Cabrillo (11-2, 3-0) tonight (10/5) in a key Coast contest. First serve is 6:30pm.
