The West Valley volleyball team started fast, struggled and then roared back to life before dropping a 3-1 match to Cabrillo Friday night in Saratoga. The Vikings (8-6, 1-2 Coast) sprinted out to a 6-1 lead in the opener, but couldn't overcome a string of unforced errors to drop the set 25-15 to the Seahawks. Cabrillo (14-2, 4-0) took set two 25-17, before the motivated Vikings grabbed the third 25-22. Set four went to the Seahawks 25-17. State kills-per-set leader Mapuhola Sekona knocked down 20 swings to go along with four service aces and eight digs. Katey Holland and Kayla Keller came up with 12 and 11 digs, respectively, to pace the Viking defense, while Audrey Fernandez recorded 19 assists. The Vikings entertain City College of San Francisco ( 5-12, 1-2) Friday night (10/12). First serve is 6:30pm.
