West Valley College named beach and indoor volleyball's Armen Zakarian the 2018-19 Coach of the Year at the annual Scarf Ceremony banquet Tuesday in Saratoga. Zakarian led his 2018 indoor squad to a fifth-place state finish after knocking off rival Cabrillo 3-2 in the CCCAA NorCal finals for a berth in the state championship tournament. HIs beach team captured the Coast Conference title and his one's pair of Kaylin Henderson and Mapuhola Sekona finished second in the state after sweeping the Coast and NorCal championships. Henderson and Sekona's runner-up finish was the highest ever for a NorCal pair. Zakarian is supported by an upper-tier coaching staff that includes Alex Jones, Erik Pauly and Davidson Wong.
