The temperature topped triple digits outside Sacramento City's North Gymnasium Wednesday, but, inside, the West Valley volleyball team was cooly dispatching both its opening day opponents. Sweeps of Sacramento City and Redwoods gave the Vikings a 2-0 mark heading to this weekend's trip to the Delta Classic in Stockton. The Vikings showed plenty of heat in the 25-14, 25-21, 25-18 sweep of the Panthers. Hannah Moore hammered a match-high 12 kills, to go along with six digs and three service aces. Aary Hashimi had 2.5 blocks and Della Trimble handed out 31 assists. In the 25-18, 25-16, 25-17 win against Redwoods, the Vikings had to come from behind in the first two sets. Set three was a different story, as WVC jumped out to an 11-0 lead, thanks to 11 straight service points from Audrey Fernandez. Fernandez finished with 10 service aces against the Corsairs, while Jaida Ward was overpowering at the net, connecting on 10 swings for floor-thumping kills. Hannah Reynoso paced the defense with seven digs and Fernandez had a match-high 19 assists.
