It was more a roller coaster ride than a volleyball match Wednesday night, as the West Valley volleyball team closed out the preseason with a 3-2 Coast Conference Crossover loss at Hartnell. The Vikings (8-6) climbed out of an 8-1 first-set hole before falling 25-23 and then taking the next two sets 26-24 and 25-18. A back-and-forth fourth went to the Panthers 25-21 to set up the fifth and deciding set. Hartnell (10-9) jumped out to an 8-4 advantage at the switch en route to a 15-9 win. Rene Wash led the Vikings with 19 kills, followed by Hannah Moore's 18. Moore also recorded three aces. Della Trimble had 41 assists and 12 digs, while Hannah Reynoso came up with a team-high 17 digs and Kelly Mahoney notched two solo blocks. WVC opens Coast-South competition Friday (10/4) at San Jose City (7-4). First serve is 6:30pm.
