West Valley beach volleyball completed a 2-0 Coast-opening Friday with a 4-1 win over Foothill in Saratoga. The Vikings (2-0) opened the match with wins in the 3's and 5's and a loss in the 4's. Viking 3's Hunter Roberts and Katrina Hochmuth swept Owls Calderon and O'Rourke 21-15, 21-15, and WVC 5's Kristen Hayes and Claire Danna blanked Foothill's Lao and Macias 21-11, 21-11. Foothill 4's Brook Smith and Ivy Johnson rallied past Vikings Kaylin Henderson and Liz McGrath 21-13, 16-21, 15-12. West Valley 3's Hunter Roberts and Katrina Hochmuth provided the clincher with a 21-15, 21-15 sweep of O'Rourke and Calderon. Vikings Morgan Wright and Kamille Williams blanked Files and Wilcox 21-16, 21-18 in the 2's, and Mapu Sekona and Emma Blockhus topped Foothill's Mafei and Green 21-12, 21-19 in the 1's.
