An inspired West Valley beach volleyball team improved to 4-1 in the Coast Conference with a 5-0 sweep of Foothill Friday in Saratoga. The Vikings (6-1 overall) won their second straight after dropping a home match to Cabrillo on March 30. West Valley jumped out to a 2-0 lead as 4's Hunter Roberts and Katrina Hochmuth swept Owls Meleina O'Rourke and Iris Calderon 21-18, 22-20, and 5's Liz McGrath and Katey Holland rallied for a 24-26, 22-20, 15-10 win over Amber Lao and Mel Baron. The Vikings clinched it when 1's Mapuhola Sekona and Emma Blockhus held off Jamie Maffei and Fiona Green 21-18, 21-13, and 2's Morgan Wright and Kaylin Henderson blanked Brooke Smith and Ivy Johnson 21-18, 21-12. Foothill (1-7, 1-5 Coast) looked to avoid a sweep as 3's Katie Wilcox and Hannah Fields took on Kristen Hayes and Claire Danna, but the tight three-setter went to the Vikings 21-16, 19-21, 15-12.
