After conceding a pair of early first half Mt. San Antonio College goals, West Valley turned in a brilliant second half in a 2-0 season-opening loss to the Mounties Sunday at Dick Schwendinger Field. Mt. SAC's Felipe Cobian put the Mounties on the board in the 15th minute off an Alex Mendez assist and then Mendez found the back of the net two minutes later for a 2-0 Mountie lead.

The Vikings were dominant in the second half, controlling posession time with constant pressure and improved passing. WVC just missed on a trio of scoring chances, including an Ethan Silva shot that hit the crossbar.

WVC keeper Connor Faries stopped five shots, including a highlight reel diving grab midway through the second half.

The Vikings (0-1-0) are off until a Sept. 6 fixture at Merritt College (0-1-0). Kickoff is slated for 2:00pm.
