The West Valley volleyball team rebounded from Wednesday's gut-wrenching five-set marathon losses to Folsom Lake and Fresno City by knocking off defending state champion American River and 5th-ranked San Joaquin Delta Friday at the Delta Classic in Stockton. Emily Paxton had a huge day at the net, knocking down 19 kills in the two matches, including three straight in the third set when trailing Delta 20-15. In the 25-18, 18-25, 25-23, 25-22 opener against ARC (4-5), Hannah Moore recorded 14 kills, eight digs, a pair of blocks and an ace, while Della Trimble handed out 41 assists and Kayla Keller came up with 12 digs. Aari Hashimi finished with seven kills, 4.5 blocks and a trio of aces. The 25-23, 25-15, 27-25 sweep of Delta (8-2) saw Hashimi record nine kills and 1.5 blocks, while Hannah Reynoso had 12 digs and three aces. Della Trimble handed out 36 assists. The Vikings (6-4) host Sierra (6-4) and state #1 Feather River (11-0) Thursday (9/19). First serve is 1:00pm.
