A furious West Valley ninth-inning rally nearly erased an 8-3 Skyline lead, as the visiting Vikings dropped an 8-7 Coast-North game in San Bruno Friday. Down 8-3 in the top of the ninth, the Vikings got a pair of two-run homers from Henry Wright and Cole Murchison to make it a one-run game, but couldn't get the equalizer.

The Vikings (21-13, 11-3 Coast-North) stayed atop the conference standings, a game ahead of the second-place Trojans (24-8, 10-4) and took the season series 3-1.

Murchison went 3-4, his fifth-straight multi-hit game, and raised his batting average to .413 and his OBP to a team-high .503. Wright finished 3-5 with his fourth round-tripper of the year. Jacob Dressler was 2-4 with a double, while Jaden Mazzaferro had two hits and an RBI. Roman Connolly took the loss in relief. Lincoln Juarez had two strong innings of relief, giving up no runs and hits and striking out three Trojans.
