West Valley starter Roman Connolly struck out five and scattered four hits in 6 1/3 innings of work to lead the Vikings to a 2-1 pitcher's duel win over Cabrillo Saturday at frigid Mission College. Connolly, along with relievers Cae Cox and Mitchell Nagel kept Seahawk batters baffled all nine innings while Viking batters did just enough to fuel the win.

James Bose scored the game-winner in the bottom of the fifth, after a Weston Scoffone single. WVC had evened it up an inning earlier on a Ryan Lordier RBI sacrifice fly that knocked in Andrew Wilford, who had walked to open the inning.

Scoffone finished 2-3, while Jaden Mazzaferro and Bose both had singles.

The Vikings (4-9) open Coast Conference action Tuesday (2/28) against Monterey Peninsula (9-5) at Mission College. First pitch is 2:00-pm.
