The West Valley men's basketball team's shooting was as cold as the winter storm raging outside in its 61-54 loss at Monterey Peninsula Friday night. The Lobos were just as icy as they trudged to a 23-19 lead at the break in a first half that saw the teams at one point come up empty on eight consecutive possessions. The loss dropped the Vikings to 5-3 in the Coast-South, 11-13 overall, with four games to go. The Lobos, who improved to 5-4, 11-14 overall, avenged a 54-49 loss in Saratoga on Jan. 16. Devante Johnson led the Vikings with 14 points and Derrik Lawrence had 11. MPC was paced by Talili Leaea's 15 points. West Valley travels to Hartnell (11-14, 4-5) Wednesday (2/13) for a game with playoff implications against the Panthers. Tipoff is 7:00pm.
