After dropping its first Coast conference contest since Feb. 19, 2019 Monday night - a 15-game stretch - the West Valley men's basketball team responded with a dominant 87-60 win over visiting Monterey Peninsula Wednesday night. The Vikings (16-3, 2-1 Coast South) employed a ferocious defense to hold MPC (7-9, 1-1) without a point in the opening 4:27 and grab an insurmountable 51-17 halftime lead. The Lobos didn't hit double figures until 6:37 remained in the opening half with WVC up 36-10.

West Valley connected on seven three-pointers in the first, two each from Aaron Ragen and Ariya Briscoe and one apiece from Nick Attanasio, Baron Bracey and Elijah Mahi. Attanasio would heat up after the break with three treys on his way to a team-high 13.

Tyler Watters scored six in the second to finish with 10 points. Ignacio Bettinelli also ended up with 10, as did Mahi. Bracey and Malik Patton added to the total team effort with nine points each, and Briscoe had eight.

The Vikings travel to first-place Gavilan Friday (1/13) for a key game against the Rams (14-5, 3-0). Tipoff is 7:00pm.
