The West Valley men's soccer team opened Coast Conference play with a methodical 3-0 shutout at Monterey Peninsula College Tuesday afternoon. The Vikings (5-3-0, 1-0-0 Coast South) had a season-high 15 shots on goal, while allowing the Lobos (0-8-0, 0-1-0 Coast North) only four SOG.

Miguel Moreno connected on the game-winner in the 21st minute, juking Lobo keeper Bryan Ochoa eight yards inside the top of the box and cruising in for an easy score. Moreno has a goal and five assists in the last three WVC fixtures, all Viking wins. Ricardo Tovar's 50th-minute score was a mirror image of Moreno's, as he faked Ochoa at the top of the box after taking a Moreno feed and walked in for a 2-0 Viking lead. Ethan Silva capped the scoring just before the end of regular time off an assist from Ruben Juarez.

Connor Faries stopped all for Lobo attempts to pick up his fifth, and third straight, win in goal.

The Vikings host De Anza (5-2-1, 1-0-0 CS) Friday (9/30) in their annual crosstown derby. Kickoff is 4:00pm at Dick Schwendinger Field.
