Vikings end season with strong showing at LPC June Invite

The West Valley men's swim team completed the 2021 season with a fine performance against a strong Las Positas team at the LPC June Invite on 6/3. Impressive for a Viking team consisting entirely of players from one of the state's top water polo programs.

WVC was led by Inigo Gonzalez, who won the 50 Fly (25.95) and the 100 Fly (57.27), and was 3rd in the 100 Free (52.53). He helped the 200 Free, the 400 Free and the 400 Medley relay teams to 2nd-place finishes. Xavier Casabella took 1st in the 500 Free (5:38.44), was 2nd in the 100 Breast (1:18.09) and 3rd in the 50 Breast (34.48). He swam the 2nd leg in the 200 Free, 400 Free and the 400 Medley relays, all 2nd-place finishers.

Aidan Hemming swam a meet-high eight events, highlighted by 2nds in the 200 Free (2:02.75), and the 200 Free, 400 Free, 200 Medley and 400 Medley relays. Jake Mendez was also a part of the 200 Medley relay and placed 3rd in both the 200 Free (2:07.15) and 200 Breast (2:59.58). Nikola Nikolic anchored the 200 Medley and 400 Free relays and was 5th in the 50 Free, while Carlos Zayola was 2nd in the 50 Breast (34.34) and 200 Breast (2:47.60), took 3rd in the 100 Breast (1:18.92) and was part of the 200 Free, 200 Medley and 400 Medley relay teams, which all finished 2nd.
