West Valley's state #1-ranked Vikings traveled to Long Beach last weekend for a four-game mini-tournament and returned to Saratoga with four convincing wins.  

The state's top-scoring team (17.91 GPG) broke the 20-goal mark in both Friday games, a 20-6 win over Cerritos (17-8) and a 21-5 rout of Palomar (11-13).

A 12-2 second half secured the Cerritos win. Lucas Romaguera led the way with a game-high four goals and four steals, while Mario Almarza, Ante Buzov, Gojko Kapovic had three goals apiece. Kai Seed stopped six Falcon shots to improve to 14-1 in goal on the year.

The Vikings (21-1) jumped out to a 12-3 halftime lead against Palomar thanks to goals from nine different Vikings. Kapovic and Alec Mortensen both finished with three goals, while Romaguera came away with four steals. All four Viking keepers - Seed, Luca Antonino, Wyatt Beymer and Casey Ocallaghan, saw a quarter each in front of the cage.

Saturday dawned with a "Battle of the Vikings" bewteen WVC and Long Beach City (12-6). Three goals from Kapovic helped West Valley coast to a 10-2 halftime lead. A 4-0 WVC third put it away. Almarza and Kapovic each finshed with three goals, while Buzov and Romaguera both found the back of the cage twice. Almarza and Romaguera each recorded four of WVC's 13 steals. Seed improved to 16-1 with the win.

After falling behind Orange Coast (10-9) 1-0 on the first Pirate possession, the Vikings reeled of six unanswered goals to go up 6-1 heading to the second. Kapovic scored twice at the end of the second to give the Vikings a 10-4 lead and that was as close as it would get. Kapovic finished with five goals - giving him a team-high 14 on the weekend - along with three steals. Buzov had four goals and three steals, while Carlos Zayola netted three goals. Seed stopped nine Pirate shots to pick up the win in goal.
