The West Valley men's water polo team overcame a slow start to overwhelm Las Positas 18-6 and claim the Coast Conference regular season championship Wednessday at the West Valley Aquatics Center. The Vikings (22-1, 4-0 Coast) fell behind 1-0 on LPC's opening possession before grabbing a narrow 3-2 lead after the first quarter. The state's #1 team returned to form soon thereafter.

WVC extended an 8-4 halftime lead to 13-6 after three and then shut out the Hawks (17-11, 3-1) 5-0 in the final quarter for the final margin.

Eric Ellison, Gojko Kapovic and Carlos Zayola each had four goals for the Vikings. Jacob Hatch found the back of the cage three times, while Kapovic added four assists and four steals. Lucas Romaguera paced the defense with seven steals and Kai Seed stopped 11 Hawk shots to improve to 18-1 on the season.
