In what may have been their best performance of the 2021 season, the West Valley softball team erupted for 17 hits in an 11-0 five-inning shutout of Cabrillo Wednesday in Aptos. Every Viking player had at least one hit, with Cayla Williams and Maddie Grissom leading the way with three hits each.

The Vikings (10-4) scored all the runs they'd need in the top of the first on a two-run single from Williams that drove in Grissom and Michelle Gonzalez. After a Hannah Hillman RBI single made it 3-0 in the second, Williams opened the third with a solo HR to right-center. A Kianna Lum SAC fly knocked in Tyavana Salazar to make it 5-0.

West Valley sent 11 batters to the plate in a six-run fourth. Grissom led off with a double and came home on a Williams double four pitches later. Lum and Grissom each had RBI singles in the inning and Hillman drove in two with a double down the third base line. Williams set the Seahawks down in order in the bottom of the fifth to send everyone home early.

Williams finished 3-for-4 with four RBI, a double and an HR, and picked up the complete-game win in the circle, striking out four and giving up only a single in the second and in the fourth. Grissom was 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI, while Hillman went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI. Lum and Allie Whitfield had two hits apiece, and Alyscia Gil had a double and an RBI.
