With the score tied 5-5 in the top of the seventh inning, West Valley erupted for nine runs on six hits, three walks and a hit batter - all with two outs. The inning for the ages in Aptos gave the Vikings (22-13, 7-4 Coast) a season sweep of the Seahawks (10-25, 4-8) and kept them in third place in the Coast, a game ahead of Monterey Peninsula. The top three teams in the conference receive automatic postseason berths.

Fifteen Vikings batted in the seventh, starting with Maddie Grissom, who led things off with a single. Back-to-back outs moved Grissom to second and brought up Isabella Gallegos, who walked, as did the next batter, Natalie Clevenger. With the bases loaded, WVC coach Vicky Piatt inserted Emma Courtney to pinch-hit for Abigail Desa. Courtney ripped a two-strike single to right, knocking in Grissom and Gallegos. Kassady Alcazar singled to load the bases again, setting the stage for Emelia Araiza's RBI-single to right that drove in Clevenger. Sydney Heming knocked in Courtney with a single, Grisson reached on an E5 that scored Alcazar, and Reyna Cruz lined a two-run single to center that brought home Grissom and Heming. Gallegos drove in Michelle Gonzales, who had walked, with a fielder's choice and Clevenger was hit by a pitch. Fittingly, Courtney, who started it all, ended the inning with a groundout to first and a 14-5 WVC lead.

America Maples set the shell-shocked Seahawks down in order in the bottom of the inning, ending the game with a three-pitch strikeout of Hailey Lang. Maples earned her ninth win of the season, striking out three in 1 1/3 innings of relief.

Araiza led the 14-hit Viking offense with a 3-5, two-RBI outing. Alcazar, Grissom and Reyna Cruz also had multi-hit games.

The Vikings open the last two weeks of the regular season with an April 19 contest against Hartnell (14-17, 6-6) at Viking Field. First pitch is 3:00pm.
