Three Vikings - Ashley Diaz, Jaden Herrera and Fryda Huizar - scored the first goal of their collegiate careers to lead the West Valley women's soccer team to a dominant 8-1 win over Chabot Tuesday at Dick Schwendinger Field. It was, however, a familiar cast of characters that got the Viking horn sounding early and often.

Kayla Potter converted an Ariel Syrkin feed at 13' for her team-leading 11th goal of 2021. Two minutes later Syrkin found Sara Prough, who found the back of the net for the sixth time this year. In the 18th minute, Isabella Colet-Ruiz scored her third goal of the season with an unassisted strike that made it 3-0.

A Celeste Macias goal put the Gladiators (4-5-2, 1-1-1 Coast-North) on the board at 23', but Herrera made it 4-1 when she headed in a Prough corner kick at 31'. Prough picked up her second goal of the game off a Brianna Valverde helper in the 61st minute, and Potter found the back of the net again a minute later on a Prough assist to make it 6-1.

Huizar converted a Nicole Nunes feed at 88' and Diaz closed out the scoring in extra time on a Herrera assist. Veronica Cook picked up the win in goal.

The Vikings (7-6-1, 3-1-0 Coast-South) travel to crosstown rival Evergreen Valley (4-5-2, 1-1-1 CS) Friday for a key Coast battle against the Hawks. Kickoff is 4:00pm.
