One year ago today, March 10, 2020, the West Valley tennis team defeated highly-ranked Chabot to earn the program's biggest win since coach Lauren Hickey's Vikings returned to action after a three-decade absence in 2019.

In its most important match to date, the West Valley women's tennis team knocked off Chabot 5-4 Tuesday in Saratoga.
 
The Vikings (5-5, 3-4 Coast) conquered the Gladiators (8-4, 5-2) behind a pair of wins from Jane LiddleOlivia Ocher and Arlenne Quinones.
 
In what turned out to be the key match of the day, Liddle teamed with Katie Watts to take the #1 doubles match over Claire Keesham/Angelina Battur 8-6 and give the Vikings a 2-1 lead heading into singles.
 
Earlier, Ocher and Quinones topped Lalia Thompson/Elizabeth Covarribus 8-4 in their #2 doubles match, while Abigail Salazar/Sovanny Thach dropped an intense 9-7 #3 doubles contest to Chabot's Clara Martinez/Thu Nguyen.
 
Liddle defeated Battur 6-2, 6-0 in #1 singles, and Ocher held off Martinez 6-1, 6-4 in the 3's. Quinones took care of Nguyen 6-1, 6-2 in the 6's to clinch the match.
 
The Vikings look to continue their playoff surge Friday (3/13) at Monterey Peninsula (4-3, 3-3), starting at 2pm.
