The West Valley tennis team continues to write the script for the pentultimate season in program history. The Coast Conference champions qualified six individuals for the 2023 CCCAA State Championship tournament with a deep run through the Coast championships last weekend at the West Valley College Tennis Complex.
Coach Lauren Hickey's squad will head to the Ojai Tournament April 27-30 with three doubles teams - Abigail Prokter/Lindsay Lee, Brynn McKenzie/Sonya Hu, Lavanika Sharma/Tal Volinsky - and three singles players - Prokter, Lee and Hu.
McKenzie/Hu and Sharma/Volinsky qualified with quarterfinal round appearances in the Coast tourney, as did Hu and Lee in singles. Prokter and Lee played in the conference finals, dropping the title match to CCSF's Ariel Xu and Christina Ling. The gritty Prokter battled through injuries all three days to advance to the Coast singles championship (played the same day as the doubles final) where she retired against Xu.
