2022 schedule one of CCCAA's toughest for 2021 state runner-up, defending Coast champions

When West Valley coach Armen Zakarian released his team's 2022 schedule, one's immediate observation was "it doesn't get much tougher than this." The 2022 intinerary includes matches against nine 2021 playoff teams, including 2021 defending champion Fresno City and state semifinalist Feather River. Throw in 12 contests in the always-competitive Coast-North Conference and Zakarian and company have their work cut out for them. Just like they did in 2021's program-defining Coasy-North championship and state runner-up season.

The season gets underway at Fresno City, the site of the 2022 State Championship Tournament. The Vikings then travel south to Zakarian's coaching alma mater, Santa Barbara City College, for matches against the Vaqueros and Rio Hondo. The home season opens Sept. 2 against the Wolverines of Sierra. Sept. 9 and 10th finds the Vikings at the San Joaquin Delta Classic, one of the state's finest two-day tourneys. WVC stays on the road the next week, visiting Folsom Lake for matches against the Falcons and Feather River Sept. 16. The preseason concludes with Coast Crossover matches against Ohlone (9/21) and Cabrillo (9/23) at home, and at Hartnell (9/28).

After a nine-day break, the Coast-North begins with a road trip to Monterey Peninsula on Oct. 14. The gruelling 12-match league slate concludes Nov. 15 at De Anza, with the CCCAA NorCal playoffs beginning Nov. 22.
